Introduction

International Master Program on Natural Hazards Mitigation and Management (iNHMM) was founded in 2012, and it is an all-English master degree program which focuses on learning of causes of natural disasters and their preventions. Our goal is to promote the awareness of risk management and preparedness of civic defense, and further achieve the higher goal of corresponding education. Due to climate change, natural disasters occur around the world with a even stronger strength and at higher frequency. The damages of lives and properties become an eminent issue that cannot be ignored. To better cope with this situation, a strong background of inter-disciplined training and knowledge is necessary to prevent, prepare, and recover all the events related to the natural hazards.

Histroy

Taiwan is located in a place with frequent natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and so on. Due to the importance of disaster prevention education and the improvement of the English proficiency by “Eagle Project”, a cross-curricular program was planned by College of Engineering, College of Planning & Design, and College of Social Science. This program was officially established in 2012 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, and enrollment began in the 2013 academic year. The Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering is responsible for the main administrative affairs.
